The South Australian State Government has passed an act regulating the Hydroponic industry in this state. This act is called the
Hydroponics Industry Control Act, 2009
Prescribed hydroponic equipment
The requirement to be licensed under the Hydroponics Industry Control Act will relate to carrying on the business of selling prescribed equipment by retail.
Under the Act hydroponic equipment
means - equipment that is designed to be used, or is of a kind that is
commonly used, for a purpose related to the cultivation of plants using
hydroponic methods.
Under Regulations, the following hydroponic equipment is declared to be prescribed equipment:
| (a) |
metal halide lights, high pressure sodium lights and mercury vapour lights of 400 watts or greater; |
| (b) |
ballast boxes designed or intended for use in association with a light of a kind referred to in (a) |
| (c) |
devices
(including control gear, lamp mounts and reflectors) designed to
amplify light or heat and capable of being used in association with a
light of a kind referred to in (a); |
| (d) |
carbon filters designed to filter air within a room, or from 1 area of a building to another or to outside; |
| (e) |
units
designed to contain plants and rotate around a light source so that the
plants grow hydroponically while being exposed to a consistent degree
of light or heat or both. |
Betta Trading has Never stocked nor considered stocking any of the above prescribed equipment.
Instead we have concentrated on things like fertilisers and growing media which are used for both hydroponic and non hydroponic growers.
I note that an enormous number of businesses sell things that can be used for hydroponics. The business in South Australia that sells the most stuff for hydroponics is the water company. They sell water which is the most important thing for hydroponics
Betta Trading stocks a small range of
basic growing supplies. We also sell things that are used mainly for Aquariums like heaters, air pumps and water pumps.
We have some basic growing media including:
Premium perlite (Yellow Bag) 100litre $30
Neem Coir 40litre $15
CocoPerl 40litre $15
Expanded Clay Balls 40litre $30
Unwrapped Coir Blocks $8
(Make about 50 litres when wetted)
Grodan Cubes: Small 50 cents Large $1
Several sizes of Grodan slabs
A variety of fertilisers and additives
We do not stock hydroponic lights except the growlux type of fluorescent which are used mainly for aquariums. We do not stock Panda film or fans.
Betta Trading condems the growing of illegal plants by any method.
We also condem those polititions who exagerate the extent of the illegal use of Hydroponic equipment, and do this for political advantage.
I note that some of the above could possibly be considered as political comment, so the comply with South Australian LAW: this was written and authorised by Steve Challis 5250
