Fish of The Amazon River Basin

The Amazon River might not be the longest river in the world, but in terms of flow it is the biggest.  The flow of the Amazon River is about 40,000 cubic Kilometres a year.  This is a lot of water.  The Amazon basin is nearly 7 million square kilometres.  This is a large area.  It is not entirely surprising that the Amazon and its tributaries contain about 3,000 species of fish.

These range from the tiny, very well known but astonishingly beautiful, Neon Tetra to the giant Piramutaba Catfish.  Many of these fish are harmless, but some are slightly less so like the savage piranha and the terrifying Toothpick Fish.

We have tranfered our books about the aquatic creatures of the Amazon to The Bookpost web site.
